Dear Family and Friends,In November 2019, my cousin Jocelyn and I are participating in a 150-350 mile bike ride throughout Israel on The Israel Ride. I am looking forward to the challenge and thrilled to raise money for two important organizations, the Arava Institute for Environmental Studies and Hazon, both promoting environmental protection in Israel and the US.Almost 25 years ago, my family's Rabbi at the Israel Congregation in Vermont, Rabbi Michael Cohen, introduced us to the Arava Institute, where he spent his first sabbatical teaching students from all over the world. He has been back many times since as a faculty member, dividing his time between Kibbutz Ketura and Manchester Center, Vermont. The Arava Institute for Environmental Studies is the primary beneficiary of the Israel Ride. The Institute is working to confront the serious environmental challenges in Israel, by creating a leadership network of environmentalists through important research, and through public involvement. The Arava Institute draws students from across the Middle East, encouraging environmental cooperation between peoples, and working towards peace and sustainable development on a regional and global scale. To learn more about the work of the Arava Institute, or about the environmental movement in Israel, check out http://www.arava.org.My parents Sara and Nat Dolsky were always thrilled to talk to Rabbi Michael upon his return from his visits there, and hear about the progress the Arava Institute was making in bringing people together to tackle these urgent issues. My parents loved Israel, and were at the forefront of their generation in raising awareness for our precious environment and natural resources. I am dedicating my ride to their memory. The second beneficiary of the Israel Ride is Hazon, one of most innovative organizations in the American Jewish community and now the largest Jewish environmental organization in the United States. They create healthier and more sustainable communities in the Jewish world and beyond. You can learn more at www.hazon.org.These last few years have been very distressing (to say the least), seeing our federal government attempt to erode environmental intiatives that had been put in place and I feel the need to do something dramatic, at least for me :).Here is how you can help. As a participant in the ride, I am committed to raise at least $3950, although my goal is $5000.With your generosity and my pedaling, we can support the environment at this important time!!
