Friends and Family,
I've decided to combine a few of my passions this year and take the plunge for the Israel ride. This November I will be riding my bike from Jerusalem to Eilat in support of several great organizations and hope to cover about 350 miles over five days of riding. One of the organizations I would like to mention in particular is the Arava Institute for Environmental Studies, which I have supported for several years but was only able to visit in person for the first time this past month. It is a particularly wonderful institution, supporting environmental research and development as well as promoting Arab-Palestinian-Israeli peace and understanding (and they have grown Judean date palms from 2,000 year-old seeds!). I would be most happy to tell you more about it and their website may be found here: www.arava.org.
I have committed to raise at least $3950 towards this cause, although hope to raise much more, and I have personally kicked-in $1800 to get things started. Any contribution you might be willing to make would be so greatly appreciated. And, it will give you mocking rights for my attempts to schlep myself up the Judean hills! And, as promised, I have included a picture of Methuselah, a date palm grown from seeds two thousand years old!
Thanks for your support!
