I am pleased to announce that I am riding in the 2018 Israel Ride.
I've been considering joining the Israel Ride since I first heard of its launch back in 2003. Now, 15 years later, I'm finally doing it. Starting October 23, I'll be joining 200 riders of all levels for a terrific fundraiser that combines my love of Israel, with my passions for cycling and progressive politics. The ride begins in Jerusalem, continues across the wonderous Negev desert, and finishes in Eilat. Five days of riding, plus a day off for Shabbat, 350 miles, ~75 miles a day.
The challenge of completing the ride should be fun. But even more important, the ride is an opportunity to support two great organizations -- the Arava Institute for Environmental Studies, which does "cross border environmental science"; and Hazon, which is focused on contemporary food issues and ways to improve health throughout the world. The work these two groups do in the name of a peaceful and sustainable planet are unmatched.
Patty will be joining me as part of the non-rider "chaverim." We have committed to raise at least $3900 for these two groups. Which means we need 39 of you, our wonderful friends, to make a sponsoring donation at $100 each to support this journey. Or if we may be so bold as to suggest, consider matching us at $360 (or more!), because it will get us to our goal even faster. Of course, anything you choose to give will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you so much for your support!
