After all of our hoopla in 2017-18, we're back on for the Israel Ride - HOORAY!!!!
This October, we'll be joining cyclists from all over the world as we ride from Jerusalem to Eilat and fundraise for two great organizations, the Arava Institute for Environmental Studies and Hazon. We're committed to ride at least 300 miles (yay!) and can't wait to be a part of the Israel Ride.
We first learned about this Ride when we were cycling in Nova Scotia in 2015. After hearing first hand about the Ride while pedaling the Natchez Parkway in Mississippi in 2016, we signed on. Unfortunately, 2017 was not our best year and we had to cancel. Thankfully we're good to go now and ready to ride in 3 weeks. Woo!
We're incredibly excited about going to Israel (our first trip!) and getting to see firsthand what these organizations do to foster peace and cooperation in the Middle East and around the world.
The Arava Institute is an environmental and academic institution, working to advance environmental cooperation in the face of political conflict. Arava's students are Jordanians, Palestinians, Israelis, and others from around the world. They're Christians, Muslims and Jews committed to solving environmental challenges together. Hazon works to create healthier and more sustainable communities in the Jewish world and beyond. We believe in what these organizations are doing and are really excited to be able to support them this way.
For our part, we've covered all of our expenses for this trip and put in some seed money to fundraise for Arava and Hazon. We hope you'll join us with whatever donation works for you. All contributions are greatly appreciated!
Since getting cleared to ride again few months ago, we've been training. Thanks to our regular ride group (you know who you are - you're AWESOME!!), we've been pedaling away. We did a longish hill ride today (Sunday) and survived with only a nominal amount of swearing. We've got 2 more long rides before we leave, then we'll get to do REAL hills! Even though it's been hard, it's so nice to be back on the bike.
Thanks so much for reading and for your support. :)
