Dear Friends and Family,
This October, in a little over six weeks, I am participating in a 150 mile, five day bike ride from Jerusalem to Eilat on "The Israel Ride" with 2 of my dear friends. It is definitely something out of my comfort zone as for those of you who know me well, I am not the most athletic person, but I am super excited about this challenging opportunity!
I will be riding with 200+ other participants to show solidarity with Israel supporting peaceful cooperation and the environment. We are riding to raise money for two important organizations, the Arava Institute for Environmental Studies and Hazon, both promoting environmental protection in Israel and the USA.
For those of you who I have supported over the years with various charities or rides, now is the time to share in the reciprocity!
Here is how you can help… I am writing to ask for your support with a donation toward my ride. Any amount will be greatly appreciated, to not only reach but surpass my goal and help these two worthy organizations.
The primary beneficiary of the Israel Ride is the Arava Institute for Environmental Studies. The Institute is working to confront the serious environmental challenges in Israel and its neighbors, by creating a leadership cadre of environmentalists, through important research, and through public involvement. The Arava Institute draws diverse Jewish, Arab and Christian students from across the Middle East, including Israel, Jordan and the Palestinian territories and abroad, encouraging environmental cooperation between peoples, and working towards peace and sustainable development on a regional and global scale. To learn much more about the work of the Arava Institute, or about the environmental movement in Israel, check out http://www.arava.org
The second beneficiary of the Israel Ride is Hazon, one of most innovative organizations in the American Jewish community and now the largest Jewish environmental organization in the United States. The word “Hazon” means vision. They create healthier and more sustainable communities in the Jewish world and beyond. Through the Bike Rides, the Community-Supported Agriculture programs, the Food Conference on Jews, Food & Contemporary Life, and other cutting edge programs, Hazon brings people together, builds community, and promotes sustainability and vibrant Jewish life. With your generosity and my pedaling, we can support Israel at this important time.
