I'm doing it again ... while I still can! In 2011 cycling 300 miles from Jerusalem to Eilat was the biggest physical challenge I'd ever undertaken. I was terrified and excited all at once. Since then, in 2012, I cycled 3600 miles across the USA with Hazon for which many of you supported me generously.
But now, 6 years older (71), I'm planning to tackle the hills of the Negev once again not only to prove I can but as a way to inspire you to contribute to the Arava Institute, which has become my favorite Israel institution to support. It shares my values of love of earth and Eretz Yisra'el by investing in the rising generation of scientists and environmental leaders in Israel and the region. The young researchers who will be supported by your contributions work together as colleagues at the Institute to develop their earth-friendly proposals. Equally as inspiring, the Arava Institute is committed to inclusivity, civility, and cultural diversity. In 2011 I was moved to tears by a young researcher from Jordan who confided in me that he had never before met a gay person, nevermind becoming friends.
All the money I raise from you will go directly to the Arava Institute. My own contribution will pay all the costs associated with the ride. I encourage you to give generously to this inspiring and worthwhile cause.
Thanks for your support.
