The 2018 Israel Ride -- #13, my "Bike/Bar Mitzvah" Ride.
This is my 13th Israel Ride, my "Bar Mitzvah" Ride. As always, I ride as part of Team JNF. For the 2018 Israel Ride, over 200 participants will make the journey from Jerusalem to Eilat. We will explore Israel and support the peace building and environmental leadership work of two great organizations, the Arava Institute for Environmental Studies and Hazon. With this Israel Ride, we will pass 1,000 riders that we have brought to Israel in the six years since I joined the leadership of the ride - I couldn't be more proud of that achievement, and the impact that it has had on the riders and the work that the Israel Ride supports.
I ride the Israel Ride in memory of my stepfather, Rabbi Morris Gordon, z"l, and my nephew, Guy Bar-Yosef, z"l. Morris was passionate about Israel. Over his lifetime, Morris built strong relationships between his communities in the U.S.A. and in Israel. Guy was raised in Israel, and was passionate about introducing visitors to the land and faith that he loved. Both Morris and Guy had an indelible effect on the thousands of people whose lives they touched.
Your donation supports the important work of the Arava Institute. Thanks to the generosity of friends and family, I raised over $12,000 in 2017. Please will help me reach an even higher level this year -- supporting peace, coexistence and environmental leadership has never been more urgent. As a gesture of my appreciation, I will plant a tree, in a Jewish National Fund (JNF) forest in Israel, in honor of each of my donors. I will also include your name on an Israeli flag that will be with me every inch of the ride. We planted over 130 trees in 2017, and I hope to exceed that in 2018!
Your contribution has an important impact on the work of the Institute, and is greatly appreciated.
