Dear Friends,
On November 5-12 my son Zagy and I will be biking from Jerusalem to Eilat to support the Arava Institute. We are doing this in celebration of my upcoming 75th birthday (on July 17, 2020) and Zagy’s 30th (October 30, 2019). We have committed to raising $7600 for the amazing efforts of the Arava Institute, an environmental program, based at Kibbutz Keturah.
The reason we have chosen the Institute is because I wanted to find a project in Israel which could bring us all together. The Arava Institute is one that our families and friends can support across all of our political and religious differences.
The Arava Institute is an organization dedicated to environmental sustenance in Israel in the Middle East. Their projects relate to climate change adaptation, transboundary renewable energy, off-grid food-water-energy solutions, and wastewater treatment and reuse. The student body is approximately one third Jewish Israelis; one third Arabs, including Palestinians from the West Bank, Jordanians, and Arab citizens of Israel; and one third international students. Today, over 1200 Arava Institute alumni are working across the Middle East, North America, and the world. to work cooperatively to address shared environmental concerns.
Nature knows no borders. Shared environmental problems heighten tension in the Middle East. By building trust with Israel’s neighbors, the Arava Institute works to cooperatively combat local, regional, and international issues of water scarcity, pollution, sustainable development, and desert agriculture.
Please help us to fulfill this pledge and donate generously to this cause that can help us all work together for a better world. I am so grateful that Zagy and I can do our part, together!
Irle Goldman and Zagy
