2019 Israel Ride

Team Ofanei Newton

This November, six members of the Newton Center Minyan community are going to Israel to cycle between 175 and 350 miles in support of the Arava Institute for Environmental Studies and Hazon.

The primary beneficiary of the Israel Ride is the Arava Institute for Environmental Studies. The Institute is working to confront the serious environmental challenges in Israel and throughout the Mid-East, amidst a climate of political conflict, by creating a leadership cadre of environmentalists. This is accomplished through important academic research, implementation and public involvement. The Arava Institute draws students from across the Middle East and the world, Jews, Muslims and Christians, encouraging environmental cooperation between peoples, and working towards peace and sustainable development on a regional and global scale. In a world where political rhetoric is increasingly divisive, the Arava Institute refuses to accept enmity and environmental degradation as inevitable.

To learn much more about the work of the Arava Institute, or about the environmental movement in Israel, check out www.arava.org.

The second beneficiary of the Israel Ride is Hazon, one of the most innovative organizations in the American Jewish community and now the largest Jewish environmental organization in the United States. The word “Hazon” means vision. They create healthier and more sustainable communities in the Jewish world and beyond. Through the Bike Rides, the Community-Supported Agriculture programs, the Food Conference on Jews, Food & Contemporary Life, and other cutting edge programs, Hazon brings people together, builds community, and promotes sustainability and vibrant Jewish life. You can learn more at www.hazon.org.

We hope that you will consider donating generously in support of our ride. Any amount will be greatly appreciated.

With your generosity and our pedaling, we can support the environment and the important work of those who are committed to environmental sustainability and peaceful cooperation between Israel and her neighbors in the Mid East. The need has never been greater. You can donate by credit card by visiting our team page at jewish.convio.net/goto/OfaneiNewton2019 or by sending a check made out to "Friends of the Arava Institute” whose address is:

1320 Centre St.
Newton, MA. 02459

Thank you in advance for your support.
